Big News: Sorrell Ltd is Now Flexitec Accredited!

Sorrell Ltd is pleased to share some important news with clients, partners, and contacts. The business is committed to delivering building maintenance work that is completed meticulously, assessed thoroughly, and aligned with recognised industry standards—whether that is a targeted repair or a complex commercial refurbishment.

Sorrell Ltd is now officially accredited to install Flexitec roof coverings.

For anyone responsible for a building, the roof is a critical risk area. Water ingress, weathering, and the disruption and cost associated with full replacement programmes can quickly escalate into operational and compliance issues. Flexitec accreditation enables Sorrell Ltd to specify and install a modern, high-performance solution that is designed to deliver a seamless, durable finish and long-term peace of mind.

What is Flexitec, Anyway?

You might be wondering, "What’s the big deal about another roofing system?" Well, Flexitec 2020 isn’t just your standard roofing felt. It’s a specialized multi-surface liquid roofing system developed by Restec.

What makes it special is that it combines the best of both worlds. It has the incredible toughness and impact resistance of traditional fiberglass (GRP), but it’s combined with the flexibility and ease of application you get with liquid overlay systems.

In the past, if you wanted a really tough roof, you’d go for GRP, but it could be brittle and prone to cracking if the building moved even a tiny bit. If you wanted flexibility, you’d go for a liquid system, but it might not have that "walk-on" durability. Flexitec bridges that gap perfectly. It’s a resin-based system that stays flexible throughout its life, meaning it can expand and contract with the British weather (which we all know can go from freezing to "sunburnt" in the space of an afternoon).

Why Accreditation Matters to You

We didn't just buy some tins of resin and call ourselves experts. To become accredited installers, the team at Sorrell Ltd underwent specialist training and assessment directly with the manufacturers. This was an intensive process to ensure we understand every nuance of the application, from surface preparation to the final curing stages.

Because we are now approved installers, we can offer our customers an insurance-backed 20-year materials guarantee. That is massive for any property maintenance company and their clients. It provides that ultimate peace of mind, knowing that the roof over your head is not just installed by experts, but also backed by the manufacturer for two decades.

When you hire Sorrell Ltd for your building maintenance services, you’re getting the assurance that we’ve met the rigorous standards set by Restec. It’s about more than just a certificate on the wall; it’s about ensuring that every joint, every corner, and every flat surface is perfectly sealed.

The Problem with Traditional Roofing

To understand why we’re so high on Flexitec, you have to look at what usually goes wrong with commercial and domestic roofs. Traditional felt roofs often rely on heat-applied bitumen. While effective for a time, the seams are always a weak point. Over years of UV exposure and thermal expansion, those seams can pull apart, leading to water ingress.

Furthermore, traditional roof replacements often involve "ripping and skipping": tearing off the old roof, sending it to a landfill, and starting from scratch. This is expensive, loud, messy, and bad for the environment.

Flexitec changes the game because it is a "multi-surface" system. This means it can be applied directly over:

  • Existing felt

  • Asphalt

  • Concrete

  • Timber

  • Metal

  • Even some single-ply membranes

Because it bonds so well to almost any surface, we can often avoid the need for a full strip-out. We clean and prep the existing surface, and then apply the Flexitec resin. This saves our clients a huge amount of money in labor and disposal costs, and it gets the job done much faster.

Speed and Efficiency: The Rapid-Curing Advantage

One of the things we love most about this system is how fast it works. In the world of building maintenance services, timing is everything. If we’re working on a commercial property, the last thing the business owner wants is a construction crew hanging around for weeks.

Flexitec uses rapid-curing technology. Once applied, the resin creates a waterproof, seamless, and fire-rated membrane in a matter of minutes. It’s rainproof almost immediately after application. In the UK, where a rain cloud is never more than ten minutes away, this is a lifesaver. It allows us to complete projects in much tighter windows of good weather, reducing the risk of water damage during the installation process itself.

Safety and Fire Ratings

As a property maintenance company, safety is always at the top of our priority list. This is especially true when it comes to fire safety. You might have seen our work with fire door inspections or fire risk assessments. We carry that same commitment to safety into our roofing projects.

Flexitec 2020 is fully fire-rated. It has been tested to the highest standards (specifically BS 476-3:2004 and EN 13501-5) to ensure it doesn't contribute to the spread of flame. This is a crucial consideration for commercial buildings and multi-occupancy residences where compliance isn't just a "nice to have": it’s a legal requirement.

Versatility for Any Project

The beauty of being accredited in this system is that it allows us to handle a huge range of projects. Whether it’s a small balcony that needs a tough, walk-on surface, or a massive industrial flat roof, Flexitec is up to the task.

Because it’s a liquid-applied system, it’s also fantastic for roofs with complex "detailing." If you have a roof with lots of pipes, vents, or awkward corners, traditional sheet materials are a nightmare to fit properly. With Flexitec, the resin flows around those obstacles, creating a single, continuous, waterproof skin with no gaps for water to find its way in.

Part of Our Commitment to Excellence

Adding Flexitec to our toolkit is part of the broader mission here at Sorrell Ltd. We want to be the one-stop-shop for high-quality building maintenance. We’ve always been proud of our projects, and by staying current with the latest materials and certifications, we ensure that we remain leaders in the industry.

Whether we are working on renewable energy programs or general building repairs, we bring the same level of dedication and professionalism. This new accreditation is just the latest step in making sure our customers get the best value for their money.
